Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't find what you're looking for here, it may be covered in the previous pages: Join the Ride, Maps & Timetable, Logistics, Accommodation, Fundraise. If not, please don't hesitate to contact us with your question.

Do you have Posters available to assist with our fundraising?
Yes, we have a Poster file available for download in high resolution PDF format on the links page. If you need anything else, please contact us.

What happens after we arrive in Hokitika?
We will finish the ride outside the BeachFront Hotel. There will be some announcements followed by an opportunity to tie-down all the scooters, unpack and rest. We then reconvene for the dinner and prize giving from 6.30pm at the Westland Boys Brigade Hall up at the Hokitika Racecourse.

What do I need to bring on the day?
  1. Appropriate Clothing/Riding Gear for 4-seasons in one day. More is better than less. BE PREPARED!
  2. A full tank of gas when you arrive at the starting point, plus a full carry tank in your support vehicle, 10 liters is recommended
  3. A print out of the timetable for your support crew drivers, so they know where to go
  4. Cash for your support crews to pay for their food and drink at the stops
  5. Please arrive early on the day to get through the registration desk to get checked off and your official participant Arm Band.

What should I check on my scooter to make sure it's going to make it?   (here's a few things you can do to give your scooter a sporting chance)
  • Check your tyres for good tread depth and condition (look for cracks). More tread = less punctures.
  • Also check tyre pressure, if you have no exact figures for your scooter, a good average will be 28PSI for front and 30PSI for your rear wheel.
  • Check your engine oil! If your engine is a 4-stroke check it on the dipstick. If it's black or thin looking and smells like petrol shout it an oil change. If your engine is a 2-stroke make sure you have at least 3/4 of a tank of oil.
  • If you're mechanically minded take your belt cover off and have a nosey. If the belts frayed, cracked or looks worn it may pay to replace it.
  • Check your air filter. If it's never been changed it might be a good time to spoil your scoot. If you're broke give it a good smack on the garage floor (dirty side down), this will be better than nothing.
  • Shout it a new spark plug. Stick the old one in the box and take it as a spare.
  • If you have a lead acid battery check the levels. If they are low fill the cells with de-mineralized water (If you are broke…. cold boiled water out of the jug). Sealed or dry cell batteries are considered maintenance free.
  • Check your brakes. You will need both front and rear working properly for the Otira via-duct descent.
  • Check all your lights work (mopeds don't need warrants so these may get neglected).
  • Run a spanner over some of the more important nuts and bolts.
  • When your ride is ready, give it a good practice run. An hours ride somewhere within cell phone coverage is sure to bring any issues to light.

How do the donations people make to my page get to the charity?
Everydayhero securely processes and receipts all donations made to your fundraising page then deposits the funds directly into the Cancer Society's bank account each week. Your friends and family can easily make a donation to your page using the ‘Give Now’ button and leave a message of support for you at the same time!

What do I do with a CASH Donation?
  1. Submit any cash donations onto your personal fundraising page by putting it through on your own personal Credit Card. You can then keep/deposit the cash back into your own bank account.
If you want the donation to appear from the friend that donated it, you can enter your friends name, email address and a personal message. Your friend will then get a receipt emailed to them.
  2. Or, Deposit the cash at any ANZ to the Cancer Society of NZ (Canterbury West Coast Division) account:
060 801 0325606 03 - Please ask the teller to put 'Scooter Safari" and your name as a reference. Please also ask for a receipt to give to the Scooter Safari Cashiers on the day of the event.
  3. Or, Give any cash received to the cashiers on the day, they'll be in the pilot vehicle/Motorhome. Please make sure it's bagged, or enveloped with your rider/team name clearly indicated.

I've received a CHEQUE Donation, what do I do with it?
  1. Cheques should be made out to the 'Cancer Society' and can be deposited at any ANZ into the Cancer Society of NZ (Canterbury West Coast Division) account:
060 801 0325606 03 - Please ask the teller to put 'Scooter Safari" and your name as a reference. Please also ask for a receipt to give to the Scooter Safari Cashiers on the day of the event.
  2. Or, Give the cheque/s to the cashiers on the day, they'll be in the pilot vehicle/Motorhome. Please make sure they're enveloped with your rider/team name clearly indicated.

How do I add 'Funds Raised Offline" to my fundraising page? To update your offline total, log-in to your everydayhero account using your email and password and click "Add offline donation" in the the right-hand toolbar.

There are prizes up for grabs for the top Fundraisers. If you are likely to be considered for a prize - you must be able to prove your funds raised offline by way of a bank tellers receipt, or cheque/s given to the cashiers on the day. Please bring these to the Cashier in the Motorhome, clearly marked with your rider/team name (to correspond with your online page).
