The Cancer Society of New Zealand![]() The Cancer Society of New Zealand is an independent, non-government-funded organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence of cancer and ensuring the best cancer care for everyone.
Funds raised from the Tranz Alpine Scooter Safari help the Cancer Society continue their extraordinary work making sure those people living with a cancer diagnosis, their family, friends and colleagues and the health professionals that support them, get access to information and support from the moment of diagnosis right through to treatment and recovery. These services include a wide range of information and support for people diagnosed with cancer, and their families; accommodation for people needing to travel away from home for long periods while undergoing treatment for cancer; and health promotion initiatives, such as SunSmart, Smokefree and LiveSmart, that aim to reduce the incidence of some cancers. The Cancer Society is New Zealand’s largest private funder of cancer research into the development of more effective treatments for cancer. This includes the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre which is internationally recognised for its outstanding achievements and currently has eight anti-cancer drug compounds in development or clinical trial.
